Rayon is a broad category of semi-synthetic viscose fibers. There are different types of rayon and they depend on the type of plant it is made from.
RAYON - made from wood pulp.
MODAL - made from beech tree fibers.
BAMBOO - made from bamboo plants.
Modal and bamboo have a "silky" quality to them. They do not pill as easily with wash and wear.
Rayon Spandex is very light and airy, making it great for warmer weather sewing. With fabric care, be sure to wash without abrasives like zippers and velcro as it may pill faster.
These have gorgeous drape, great stretch, but recovery depends on the type- normal rayon spandex doesn’t have great recovery, modal and bamboo have good recovery but are not suitable for fitted clothing like leggings. These are all going to be a lighter weight knit.
Idea's of what you can make: Flowy tops, skirts, dresses, pjs.
When I saw this fabric, I was interested immediately but the listing description did not indicate how wide the fabric was. I emailed as well as sent a message chat asking for this information. The answer I received from both inquiries was that most of the fabric in the shop is 58-60" wide and will be noted in the description if not. Well, just received it and it is barely 44" wide. Quite a significant difference, so my planned project cannot be done. I will have to figure out a different use. My ask to all fabric retailers to always include fabric width in all descriptions so that us customers can plan carefully.
