It's gonna be Me-Made-May!

Can you believe it's already almost May?  MAY??  I mean, where did the year go? I feel like I was just celebrating New Years.  But that means it's time for Me-Made-May!  Me-Made-May was created by Zoe over at her blog So, Zoe... 9 years ago!  We're going to clear up some confusions you may have about it and hopefully get you as excited as we are for it.

Me-Made-May is an opportunity to bask in the creative genius that you are.  It focuses on wearing and being proud of all your me-made items.  Encouraging more people into getting into self-made items.  That means something different to everyone, but most people decide to challenge themselves to wear at least one me-made item each day in May.

As people who sew and create we have the ability to express ourselves in ways that others may not.  We appreciate the time and effort put into those items.  Not everyone in our lives understands or appreciates those sort of little things (did you see how straight my topstitch is???)  so having a community that appreciates it, feels amazing.  It links and connects all makers across borders and all walks of life!

No matter how much or how little you have made you can participate in MMM, and you can customize the challenge to perfectly fit your life and what you have going on.  Don't feel comfortable posting online?  No problem, MMM isn't a photo contest, it's completely up to you how you how much you want to share.

Do you have any special events in May?

Do you have a special event going on this month?  A birthday dinner?  A party?  Graduation maybe?  This is the perfect time to show off some of your me-made!

Do you have any older makes in your closet?

Now is the perfect time to do some spring cleaning out of your closet.  Check out those older makes, do you still love them?  Bring them into rotation again!  Do you not care for them anymore?  Give them to someone else who can give them new life.

Have a new technique you want to try?  A new fabric base you've been wanting to try?

You do not need to worry about making a whole new wardrobe for MMM, but if you want to challenge yourself to finally try out a zipper?  Maybe you want to try knits?  Buttonholes scare you?  This may be the perfect time to challenge yourself to try them out.

It's a great benchmark for future projects.

What skills do you want to accomplish in a year?  How many pieces could you wear last year compared to this year?  Me-made-May is a great time every year to sit back and reflect on how far you have come in your creative journey.  It can be a time to look back and see where you've been and set new goals for your future.

If you want to give yourself some motivation this May, follow our Instagram challenge or you can sign up and pledge whatever your Me-Made-May challenge for yourself is!
